Road Planings
Whether you’re laying a driveway or car park, our road planings are a fantastic choice of building gravel. Produced during the road resurfacing process, our road planings are a cost-effective way to resurface your property. Thanks to being able to be compacted down whilst giving off minimal dust, road planings are perfect for both domestic and commercial projects such as car parks, pathways, access roads and driveways.
The main purpose of road planing is to create a smooth and even surface for vehicles to travel on and to ensure the longevity of the road infrastructure. As Bitumen is a natural substance, it is also understood that using road planings is safe for the environment.
How Does Road Planing Work?
Road planing, also referred to road milling or asphalt milling, is performed using specialised machinery called planers or milling machines. These machines have a rotating drum with cutting teeth that effectively grind and remove the top layer of the road surface. The milling machine is driven over the road surface, and the cutting teeth grind away the asphalt or concrete. This process creates a significant amount of debris, which is collected and transported away for recycling or disposal. The depth of material removed can be adjusted, allowing for precise control. This is important, especially when only a partial removal is needed to correct road imperfections or to prepare the surface for a new layer of asphalt or concrete. Road planing can also be used to correct road profiles, removing irregularities, potholes and worn-out surfaces.
