Spending The Summer In The Garden With The Kids
Posted on - 15.04.22When summer hits in the UK, we need to make the most of it. We could be forecast a whole month of summer sun, but two days in, we find its torrential downpours and that's how it'll stay. So why not get the little ones into the garden while you can, with some nice simple garden activities!
Build A Sand Pit
A sandpit is a great way to keep young children entertained in the summer. Of course, if you're building your own, don't forget to include a canopy or built it where there is plenty of shade to protect your little ones.
There are several styles of sandpit that you can build yourself, right in your backyard, and when filled with high-quality play sand, perfect for small children.
Into the ground - This is possibly the most simple form of sandpit that you can build into your garden, however, it is also the most permanent. This one simply requires you to dig out the shape of your sandpit into the ground, lining it, pond liner works well for this, however, can store the rain so seek rain permeable alternative. You will then want to secure your edges, and fill your pit with our fantastic play sand.
Ground Level - Simple yet effective. This one requires a simple base and edge to be created before being filled with sand. If you have a corner of a patio that can be used as a base, you can simply build a frame from railway sleepers, Stoke on Trent, add a liner and fill it with play sand. This method means that at the end of the summer, you can bag up the sand, roll up the liner, lift your frame and pack it all away in time for autumn rains and a heavy winter!
On Legs - of course, you might want more of a tabletop sandpit, for those a little older to play with. So why not build your pit onto some little legs. You can make the most of an old table, just shorten the legs to the right height, and add some sides for a simple yet effective sand pit.
Grow Their Own
Kids love to garden! Some will carry this with them into adulthood, others will avoid it at all costs as soon as thy hit teenage status. But while they are young, why not make the most of their love of dirt and bright colours and create their own flower garden, or even mini allotment!
Whether you choose to dig up and let them have part of your existing garden, or like above, you build them their own flowerbed, adding topsoil from Stoke on Trent allows whatever they choose to grow the best head start possible.
Combine our railway sleepers and top soil to give creative minds the perfect space to get a little muddy!
